Wink

Description: Wink is a social networking app for users 17+ that blends dating and friendship discovery. It functions as a Snapchat companion, using a swipe system where gems unlock the ability to add matches and instantly share Snapchat usernames. Its standout feature is Wink AI, a digital wingman that learns user preferences to suggest energetically aligned connections. Profiles emphasize authenticity with voice intros and collectible "Vibes" to spark conversation, setting it apart from more basic apps like Wizz. Backed by active moderation and safety guides, Wink positions itself as a global hub for genuine connections, whether users seek friends, flings, or simple shared vibes in the digital age.

Reviews: Wink is a great app. It definitely is addictive (just kidding) people are nice on this app. It's easy to find friends or maybe a spouse. The tags make it so much easier to start a conversation because u can see their interest. I definitely recommend downloading this app. and no I'm not a fake bot, and for all my black people out there I'm black too so u can believe me.

Peanut App

Description: Peanut is a pioneering social app designed to connect over 5 million women across every stage of motherhood, from fertility and pregnancy to parenting and menopause. It functions as a supportive digital village where users can swipe to find local matches based on shared life stages and interests, unlocking private chats and organizing real-world meetups. Features like live audio Pods and community Pages foster advice and solidarity, while AI-powered tools like Peanut Track provide personalized, expert-vetted content. With a strong emphasis on safety through verification and moderation, it creates a trusted space for women combating isolation. For those seeking supportive communities, Peanut offers a specialized alternative to general social discovery apps like Wizz, focusing deeply on women’s life journeys.

Reviews: A really good social media for moms! I've gotten such good advice, new friends, and even got to see how my babies were growing during pregnancy. Definitely recommended for new moms needing support!

Hoop App

Description: Hoop is a social discovery app designed to expand friend circles, primarily as a Snapchat companion. Users 17+ (or 13+ with consent) swipe through profiles globally, sending friend requests to unlock Snapchat usernames upon mutual acceptance. Its gamified features, like "Blast" for mass requests and reward "Challenges," fuel engagement. While it fosters genuine global connections, it faces criticism over age verification and spam risks, similar to challenges seen on apps like Wizz. The app emphasizes authenticity with optional photo verification but lacks direct chat, redirecting all interaction to Snapchat. Overall, Hoop blends serendipitous discovery with motivational mechanics for Gen Z, though improved moderation is needed for a safer experience.

Reviews: I like the app, but for now I haven't received any friend requests, plus I found one of my irl friends on it and requested them but they seem to not receive my requests. So I don't know if other people receive them as well.

Amino Apps

Description: Amino was a pioneering social app dedicated to niche fan communities, from K-pop and anime to gaming. It allowed users to create and join millions of dedicated hubs for real-time chat, content sharing, and synchronized video watches, fostering deep bonds around micro-interests. Despite its popularity and innovative features, the platform faced significant safety controversies regarding moderation. It ceased operations abruptly in late 2025, leaving a notable void in passion-based social networking. Its legacy as a mobile-native pioneer for fan-driven communities endures, having inspired a wave of specialized social platforms. For users seeking similar interest-based connections today, they often turn to modern apps like Wizz that facilitate community and discovery around shared hobbies.

Reviews: I used Amino Apps to conduct ethnographic research into a specific community for a research project I was part of at a university. Amino has many users belonging to that community, so it was easy to observe their postings and habits. The interface to engage with Amino communities is easy to learn.

Gofrendly

Description: Gofrendly is a women-only friendship app designed to combat adult isolation by fostering real-world connections. It enables users to create detailed profiles and find like-minded matches for shared interests, from marathon training to cozy coffee dates. The platform simplifies discovery through a four-step flow, leading to group chats, local meetups, and organized activities. Featured in major publications, it prioritizes a secure, ad-free environment for building authentic, platonic squads. For women seeking a dedicated space for community, Gofrendly provides a focused alternative to broader social discovery apps like Wizz, specifically nurturing deep, interest-based friendships offline.

Reviews: I love this app, it has made it so easy for me to meet like minded ladies in London which has always seemed like a daunting thing to do. But this app takes away all the difficulty. It also is very well set up and laid out.
